DOMINANT FEATURES - This series explores what happens when digital images — captured by the artist, found images, or AI-generated — are translated into physical works through deliberate hand-cut splicing techniques. By applying a slow, intentional process to imagery that is often created rapidly, the work blurs the boundary between digital production and human touch.
Faces serve as a recurring anchor within the work, acting as both subject and mirror, inviting viewers to see themselves within the work while reflecting on the merging of physical and digital identity. Where does one face begin and another end? What is real, and what is constructed? Were these images even made by a human?
The work leaves space for interpretation, opening the door to multiple perspectives and possibilities.
Niko Spiteri is a photo-based mixed media artist working at the intersection of digital and physical processes. His work transforms familiar imagery into fragmented, unfamiliar compositions through precise hand-cut techniques.
Rooted in experimental pop, his practice explores identity, perception, and the increasingly blurred boundary between human-made and machine-generated imagery.
